Health Benefits
Celery juice is a hydrating vegetable drink that is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiviral, and has numerous health benefits. Let’s look at the top health benefits of celery juice one by one.
Helps Heal Acid Reflux and Ulcers
Bacteria overgrowth, toxicity, and compromised gut flora may lead to acid reflux and heartburn. If you have acid reflux, it also means that you have inadequate levels of hydrochloric acid in your stomach to destroy the bacteria causing it and to prevent acid reflux.
Celery juice is not only hydrating but it’s also rich in mineral salts that may help to ensure that enough hydrochloric acid is produced to prevent acid reflux and heartburn from happening. Later in this article, you will also learn how celery juice may also protect your liver further contributing to better digestion and the prevention of acid reflux.
Celery juice can protect your digestion in many other other ways as well, including preventing ulcers. Ulcers are sores that develop in the stomach or small intestine when stomach acid damages the lining of the digestive tract often due to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria and anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Research has found that celery contains a specific type of ethanol extract that may replenish depleted gastric mucus levels, prevent leaky gut, and protect your digestive tract from ulcers (2).
Reduces Inflammation and Autoimmunity
Celery and celery juice is rich in antioxidants and polysaccharides that may support your overall health, fight free radical damage, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of disease. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, celery juice may lower inflammation that may lead to joint pain, skin disorder, digestive problems, kidney and liver infections, and other health issues (3).
Research has found that luteolin in celery juice may reduce inflammation and allergic responses, and apigenin in celery juice may reduce inflammation and symptoms of arthritis. Apigenin may also help to suppress the immune system, and benefits those with autoimmune diseases. Furthermore, by reducing overall inflammation, and fighting viruses and toxins in the body, celery may help to protect your body from developing an autoimmune condition in the first place (4, 5).
Helps Reduce Strep and H. Pylori Infections
Celery juice may be a hydrating and soothing drink that can enhance your recovery if you have a strep throat. Research has shown that celery juice may be a powerful anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antimicrobial drink. As an anti-inflammatory vegetable juice, it may reduce your symptoms rapidly. Thanks to its antiviral properties, it may also eradicate the virus preventing yours from getting sick in the first place (6).
Research has shown that as an antimicrobial remedy, it may be able to effectively fight H. Pylori, a bacteria that can lead to sores, called ulcers, in the small intestine and the lining of your stomach. As you’ve learned earlier, celery juice may prevent digestive troubles and stomach ulcers that may be caused by H. Pylori (6).
Contains Undiscovered Sodium Cluster Salts That Are Critical for the Brain
Celery juice contains undiscovered sodium cluster salts. While more research is needed on these cluster salts, they may have countless health benefits for you.
Mineral salts, including sodium cluster salts in celery juice, may serve as building blocks for neurotransmitter chemicals in the body that is in charge of electrical impulse activity and healthy neuron function. These salts may support the creation of new neurons and support your optimal brain function as a result.
Helps Optimize Energy Levels
Drinking celery juice, especially first thing in the morning, may help to optimize your energy levels. Celery juice is a highly hydrating drink that is rich in vitamins and minerals that are essential to help you feel vibrant and energetic (1).
A boost of vitamins and minerals in the morning can give you the energy in the morning to start your day. They may also help you replenish your body after a workout or during a busy day. Due to its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties, they may help to fight inflammation and illness that can drain your energy.
Helps to Restore Adrenals
Adrenal fatigue is an increasing problem that more and more people are experiencing in the world. Celery juice may just be one of the natural remedies you need to help you restore your adrenals and fight adrenal fatigue.
As a vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant-rich vegetable juice, it can help you give you more natural energy without draining your adrenals. It can help you reset your taste-buds in the morning to help you choose adrenal-supporting foods. By reducing inflammation in your body, celery juice may help to reduce the risk of disease, including adrenal fatigue (1, 3).
Neutralizes and Flushes Toxins Out of the Liver
Celery juice is a very hydrating drink that is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that may help to fight and flush out toxins in your body. It can also help to replenish your body with nutrients after detoxifying it.
Celery may be able to improve liver enzyme functions and promote overall liver health. As a result, it may support your liver’s ability to deal with toxins, support your overall health, aid your digestion, and prevent disease (7).
Raises Hydrochloric Acid and Helps the Liver Produce Bile
Acid reflux and digestive problems are often connected to a weakened liver. When your body has compromised digestion due to an overburdened liver, it is unable to produce enough or strong enough bile. This results in the overproduction of hydrochloric acid to compensate for the issue. However, too much hydrochloric acid can further compromise your digestion, and feed the cycle of digestive issues, and lead to acid reflux.
The good news is that research has shown that celery may reduce fat build up in the liver, improve liver enzyme functions, and better overall liver health. As you’ve already learned, celery juice is also rich in mineral salts and hydrating properties that can further ensure appropriate levels of hydrochloric acid, better digestion, and less acid reflux (7).
Weakens Viral Infections, such as Epstein-Barr, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes, and Shingles
Celery juice is a powerful antimicrobial, antiviral, and antiseptic remedy. According to research, celery has antimicrobial components that can reduce bacteria growth and infections. It can naturally boost your immunity and weaken vital infections in the body. Celery juice may be able to starve viruses and other pathogens in the body, such as the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus, Herpes, and Shingles (6, 8).
Since celery is a powerful food to help lowering inflammation, it may lower the symptoms of and reverse autoimmune and other chronic diseases. In the process, they may also kill viruses and fungi, such as EBV and Candida, that may be one of the root cause of these illnesses.
Powerful Weapon Against SIBO and Bloating
As you’ve learned earlier, celery juice is a powerful remedy for digestive troubles. As a powerful antimicrobial, it may be able to effectively fight the bacteria that is the culprit of Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) (6).
Celery has a high water content and is also high in potassium both of which may be able to reduce bloating from water retention. By reducing gut inflammation and fighting pathogens, it may reduce bloating and gas.

Why not just blend celery and keep the pulp in?
Because the pulp fiber reduces the overall absorption of the nutrients.
A little confused. I just confirmed celery is high fodmap. I had already checked since i made the juice before and had been using the powdered form. Clarification please.
Yes if you have challenges with FODMAPs, I would reduce celery usage.
