pH

Boost Your pH & Energy Levels:

Your internal pH plays an important role in your overall health.  The human internal ecosystem is stabilized by several different buffering systems that keep the body functioning at a high level for as long as possible. One of these buffering systems is pH.  Our blood stream should be slightly alkaline at 7.365 pH at all times for the body to be healthy.

Maintaining pH balance through proper diet and lifestyle is one of the most critical tools to optimizing your health.   There are certain strategies that can be used to boost your pH all day and night without expensive supplements.

Balancing Your pH in the Body:

The body has an incredible homodynamic control system built around maintaining pH levels.  These innate buffering systems include getting rid of excess acid or base by products through the lungs, skin, saliva, & urine.  The most common problem with pH balancing is keeping up with the excess metabolic acids.

Acids are produced from a lack of oxygen, emotional stress, poor diet, environmental toxins, cellular inflammation and metabolic waste products (1, 2).  One of the biggest challenges many individuals have is maintaining a healthy pH range all day and night.

We are constantly encountering different stressors that drain our alkaline reserves and leave us in an acidic state.  Here are a few simple strategies that I have found to maintain a healthy pH all day and night.  The benefit of applying these advanced techniques is higher energy, mental clarity, and emotional stability.

Celery:

This water-rich veggie is an excellent acid neutralizer.  You can eat it before, during, or after a meal.

It contains a perfect electrolyte balance that powerfully quenches thirst and re-energizes & alkalizes your body.  This is great for easy snacking during the day between meals to maintain healthy hydration & alkalinity.

Aloe Vera Juice:

This is incredibly alkalizing and loaded with electrolytes, trace minerals, anti-oxidants and polysaccharides.  Pure aloe juice or gel gives one of the quickest alkaline boosts.

This is an ideal drink before or after a large meal.  Apple cider vinegar is another great booster that can be used with aloe vera or without it.

Fennel Seeds:

This is a concentrated form of minerals like calcium, potassium, manganese, magnesium, selenium, zinc, copper, & iron.  Additionally, it is rich in the powerful flavonoid anti-oxidants kaempferol & quercetin.   Fennel seeds neutralize acids, aid in digestion, and are an incredibly good breath freshener.

This is perfect when you are in a hurry, on the road, or eating out at restaurants.  Simply put a small container of fennel seeds in your purse or car and pop these seeds throughout the day to keep your breath fresh and your saliva alkaline.

Lemon/Lime Bicarbonate Formula For Optimal pH:

Squeeze one whole lemon/lime in a glass and begin adding baking soda bit by bit.  The acid/base combination will immediately begin to fizz.

Keep adding baking soda until the fizz stops and then fill the glass with water (8-16 oz).  This is the ideal drink before bed to maintain an alkaline environment while sleeping.

De-Inflaming Lemonade:

This drink is loaded with some of the most powerful antioxidant rich herbs and alkalizing elements.  Make this fresh in a big glass pitcher each morning and keep refrigerated so the whole family can enjoy all day long.  Even children and picky eaters typically enjoy this drink.  This is a great way to help people who crave soft drinks and other sweetened drinks.

1 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice:
(4 -6 lemons)
4-6 cups of clean water (to taste)
1 tsp of ground turmeric
1 tsp of cinnamon
Pinch of pink salt (Himalyan salt)
½ tsp of liquid stevia (or to taste)

Optional: 1 tsp ground/fresh ginger

  1. I am confused because your pH chart shows lemon juice about a pH of 1 and then you recommend drinking lemonade. Please explain. Thanks!

    1. The explanation is along the lines of citric acid is said to be nullified in the digestion process, while the magnesium, potassium etc in the lemon has an alkalising effect when digested, and this effect greatly outweighs the acid in the lemon. To be honest, my jury is still out as to whether this acid/alkali thing in the body actually occurs. However, the explanation as to why it’s healthy may be incorrect, but the effects of eating this way are undoubtedly more beneficial than eating a diet that “promotes acidosis” as proponents of the alkali diet say. So while I’m still currently keeping an open mind as to the how, I still try to follow a similar diet because it is healthier, even if their explanation for why it’s healthy may be off the mark.

  2. I find out about using lemon and a pinch of baking soda on my own, and I can honestly say it does have a beneficial effect on the stomach and give you a little more energy. But then that’s just me.
