Boost Your Energy with Lemon Water:

Fresh squeezed lemon water is one of the most well tested energy boosters around. Most people in America rely on caffeinated beverages like coffee to get aroused in the morning. These adrenal stimulants can produce dirty energy in the form of blood sugar swings and oxidative stress. Lemon water produces clean energy by hydrating and oxygenating the body to extraordinary energy and mental clarity.

After sleeping through the night, the bodily tissues are dehydrated and need clean, pure water to filter out toxins and improve energy production in the cells. Most individuals turn to stimulants like coffee in the morning to give them a jump start. Unfortunately, coffee is a diuretic that depletes your body of water reserves and essential minerals and electrolytes like sodium, potassium, calcium & magnesium.

The Pros and Cons of Caffeine & Stimulants:

People feel energized by coffee due to the effects of caffeine on the adrenal glands. Coffee stimulates these organs to pump out instant energy hormones epinephrine and norepinephrine. These hormones stimulate the body to breakdown stored sugar and release it into the bloodstream.

This process causes abnormal blood sugar that increases oxidative stress, free radical formation and overall tissue damage.  This is called dirty energy because it produces a rampant amount of damage to the body in order to activate energy formation. Clean energy produces cellular energy without an excessive load of oxidative stress.

Food as Bioelectrical Energy

The food and beverages we eat provide electrically charged molecules that initiate energy production in our body. An ion is part of a molecule that carries an electrical charge. Positively charged ions are called “cations,” while negatively charged ions are called “anions.”

Most of the food we put into our bodies comes in a cationic form, while our natural digestive processes (hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes, saliva) are anionic. Lemon is one of the only anionic foods on the planet (1, 2). This means that it carries a very strong negative charge and is extremely electrically active.

Fresh lemon helps oxygenate the body and maximizes enzyme function. Lemon is known to stimulate the liver’s natural enzymes (3). This assists the liver in the process of dumping toxins like uric acid and of liquefying congested bile ducts (4).

Citric Acid Cleanses the System

Citric acid can also play a very important role in chelating out abnormal calcium stones. It has a unique ability to form soluble complexes with calcium that many have used to eliminate pancreatic stones and kidney stones (5). This mechanism can also help prevent calcium deposits from building up in the arteries that promote cardiovascular disease (6).

Clean lemon water provides the body with hydration, antioxidants and electrolytes. Lemon is a rich source of the immune boosting vitamin C. It also has good quantities of electrolytes such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. Lemon is a tremendous source of citrus bioflavonoid antioxidant phytonutrients that have been given the label Vitamin P (7).

Vitamin P Improves Cellular Oxygenation:

Vitamin P consists of the flavonoid glycosides hesperetin and naringenin among others. Studies have shown that vitamin P enhances the antioxidant capability of vitamin C. These bioflavonoids also improve capillary permeability and overall blood flow (8). This is especially important for oxygenating tissues and maintaining normal blood pressure (9). These antioxidants have also been shown to reduce swelling, venous backup and edema (10).

Upon rising take 1 full lemon and squeeze it into 16-32 oz. of fresh clean water and drink. Be sure to eat out the membranous parts of the lemon where the majority of the pectin fiber and citrus bioflavonoids are located. Stevia can be added to form sugar-free lemonade. Apple cider vinegar and various herbs can be used to boost enzymatic and antioxidant potential.

Applying This in Your Life:

Lemon water is a fantastic way to start your day for all the reasons explained above.  The challenge with the lemon water is that it can erode the enamel on one’s teeth.  To avoid this you want to rinse your mouth out with clean water and get any of the extra citric acid out after drinking the lemon water.

You can also do oil pulling with coconut oil to improve the health of your teeth, gums and oral cavity.  The combination of drinking lots of lemon water and oil pulling is especially helpful for detoxification. Even though I slammed coffee drinkers in the front-end of this article, I really do not think that drinking organic coffee is that much of a problem.

The best type of coffee is organic coffee that is free of any form of mold and that is what I recommend.  Adding in 2 tbsps. of coconut oil and/or grass-fed butter/ghee is especially good as a breakfast substitute.  The good fats in the coconut oil, butter and ghee are amazing for the brain and they help stimulate fat-burning mechanisms in the body.

I read both articles on parsley and lemon water.They are really full of insights you may not get elsewhere as I have been on numerous natural health websites.They do have many info but not as in here.I was wondering if eating parsley and lemon water at the same time as in a program/therapy would be safe.   2. I am in stage 4 kidney disease; will drinking the lemon water hurt me? Do you have any suggestions on the proper diet for someone like me? I am still very active and feel well most of the time.

  6. I’ve been drinking lemon water, doing oil pulling, and drinking bullet proof coffee for years. I’ve been having recurring tooth sensitivity on my upper molars, so I’m drinking the lemon water and coffee with a straw. Any advice?

  7. Thank you for the article. I love using fresh lemons in my water for the Vit C, mild detox properties, and for helping with blood sugar stabilization. A good majority of the year we cannot get fresh or good quality lemons here. What are your thought on using powdered crystallized lemon when fresh isn’t available?

  8. I am 74 years old. Rheumatoid arthritis has plagued me for many years. At the moment most joints are inflamed.
    I have cut out all inflammatory foods.

    Most of the recommendations mentioned is part of my lifestyle. However due to many years of prescribed medications, ( which I do not take any longer) I now have NAFLD and a painful left kidney.

    Is there anything more you can suggest Dr Jockers to alleviate the pain as a result of inflammation?

    Thanks for this article! I am a big believer in warm lemon water in the morning. You don’t mention amounts in your information. I usually squeeze the juice of half a lemon (small lemon) or about 1 tablespoon in about 12 oz. water. Does this sound adequate? I wondered if you have any recommendations about how long to wait before you eat or take supplements after the lemon water? Also, love the idea of adding a pinch of sea salt. Many thanks, Kristen
