If you’ve ever used a red light mask and wondered whether light therapy can do more than give your skin a temporary glow, this episode is for you.
I sat down with LYMA founder Lucy Goff to explain how a clinical-grade, near-infrared cold laser, re-engineered from a $40,000 hospital machine, can reach the deepest layers of your skin and switch on the genes associated with youthful, regenerating tissue.

Why Laser Light Reaches Deeper Than LED
Lucy explains that wavelength is only part of the story: the structure of the light source determines how much biological power actually reaches deep tissue. While LED light scatters and bounces off the surface, a focused 808 nm laser travels into the dermis and the ligaments beneath, where sagging truly begins.
Unlike microneedling, radiofrequency, and ablative lasers that rely on damaging the skin, this approach works epigenetically, and a 2025 study in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum found that it influenced 45 genes in human skin and boosted the SIRT1 longevity gene roughly six-fold, compared to just one gene with an LED device of the same power.

How To Use Cold Laser Therapy At Home
I will share my own experience after four weeks of evening use, and Lucy walks through exactly how to dose it: about one minute per section, gliding over the skin for surface rejuvenation, or holding for three minutes per area for scars, wounds, and joint pain.
They also cover what results to expect at 12 weeks, how people are using it for acne scars, rosacea, C-section healing, and loose skin after GLP-1 weight loss, and the few contraindications to know, including fungal infections, moles, overactive thyroid, and pacemakers.

Lyma Laser
Most anti-aging skin devices work by damaging your skin so it repairs itself, but near-infrared laser light can switch your cells back into “youth mode” without harming a single cell.
That’s why I’ve been using the LYMA Laser, an FDA-cleared, clinical-grade 808 nm cold laser that reaches deep into the dermis and the ligaments beneath your skin, and it’s HSA/FSA eligible.
