If you’ve ever wondered whether the carnivore diet is a miracle or a mistake, this episode cuts straight through the noise.

I will take a deliberately unbiased look at the most polarizing way of eating on the internet, working through the myths one by one and explaining why the same diet can be life-changing for one person and quietly damaging for another.

Why There Is No One-Size-Fits-All Diet

Nutritional extremists on both ends insist they’ve found the proper human diet, but I will describe a spectrum, like a bell curve, with carnivore thrivers on one side, plant-based thrivers on the other, and most of us somewhere in the middle.

What decides your spot is your microbiome and your genetics: in one person, animal foods produce healthy postbiotics that support the mitochondria inside the intestinal cells, while in another the same foods produce pro-inflammatory compounds that damage them.

I will explain why people who struggle with FODMAPs often feel dramatically better once fermentable fibers come out, why stable blood sugar lowers your need for antioxidants in the first place, and why so-called anti-nutrients like oxalates, lectins, and phytic acid create useful hormetic stress for some people and real damage for others.

The Heart Disease Myth And The Real Culprits

Saturated fat and cholesterol get the blame, but I will point to three dietary drivers of arterial inflammation instead: the blood sugar and insulin spikes that come from grains, sugars, starches, and processed foods; processed vegetable oils like corn, soybean, safflower, and cottonseed that poison your mitochondria; and the chemical load from glyphosate, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and heavy metals.

A carnivore diet built on organic, grass-fed animal products avoids all three, which is why the heart disease claim doesn’t hold up for most people following it well.

The Pitfalls To Watch And The Nutrients You Gain

Long-term carnivore eating is not risk-free, and I will name the specific issues along with the fix for each: iron overload and hemochromatosis, and why regular blood draws matter far more for men than for menstruating women; the roughly 25% of the population carrying the APOE4 genotype who do better on wild-caught fish, poultry, and high-polyphenol olive oil than on red meat; and congested bile that needs bitter herbs, choline, taurine, and TUDCA before a higher-fat diet will ever feel good.

On the other side of the ledger is nutrient density, with carnosine, astaxanthin, retinol, CLA, B12, and organ meats making animal foods one of the richest ways to eat once you know your own fiber threshold.
